40 years ago "Ege Bamyasi", perhaps the most influential album by experimental Cologne krautrock band CAN, was released. Its psychedelic melodies have influenced musicians over several generations, including Stephen Malkmus, a life-long CAN fan who confessed to listening to the record obsessively. What could make more sense than to ask the singer and songwriter of our favorite guitar band of the 1990s PAVEMENT to celebrate its 40th anniversary with an exclusive live performance of the album, a one-off that would form the centrepiece of this year's WEEK-END festival in the city of CAN´s origin. The otherwise shy musician, not renowned for experimental projects, was thrilled by the idea and immediately agreed. Malkmus will be joined on stage by members of Cologne's finest post-kraut band VON SPAR.
