Even 35 years after its release, we’re still dancing like crazy to the sedate, percussive hook of the acid wonder “Voodoo Ray”. Meanwhile its creator, Gerald Simpson, aka A Guy Called Gerald, has long since made his mark on the history of British dance music. Alongside the epoch-defining LP Black Secret Technology (1995), is, of course, the legendary Journey to the Sun EP, of which only 30 copies were ever pressed. What unites all of his tracks (and live sets) is the way they draw their special magic from a unique fusion of Detroit techno, Chicago house madness, and UK breaks.
