Opek

Opek
Jaki Club

A few years ago, Lukas “Opek” Joachim told the hip-hop website mzee that he was currently listening to jazz saxophonist Wayne Shorter and Cologne’s leading rapper Retrogott on repeat. What already appeared logical back then, makes even more sense now. The instrumental tracks on his latest album Trafo feel at home in the green-misty basement clubs of the world, where, with a bit of a buzz, they make heads nod and invite spontaneous lyric-writing. But their soul is so damn jazzy that it packs a laid-back punch. Soundtracks that cheerfully draw inspiration from Japan, Brazil or the USA, whilst Opek conducts his five-piece band from his drum stool. One of the hottest acts in Cologne, no question about it!
